Biography

Olivier “Twist” Gondry was born in Versailles, France. He has two older brothers Francois and Michel. At an early age, his father taught Olivier computer programming which were skills he took with him throughout his life. At 19, he worked on industrial projects. Drive 30-meter machine with Apple II, it was very interesting!

Between the ages of 23 and 33, Olivier played trumpet in different French bands. He spent a lot of time on the road meanwhile working on computers for a living. Occasionally, Olivier would work on his brother’s projects, such as Daft Punk “Around The World” and Bjork “Hyperballad”.

In 1995, Olivier started learning special effects at BUF in Paris. He worked on a lot of Michel’s projects and several others as well. In 98, Olivier went to LA to visit Michel and ended up staying for two years. He took a job with Method Post where he did the post on several of Michel’s projects and designed special effects with his own programs.

Eventually he co-directed videos with Michel on Chemical Brothers “Star Guitar” and Kylie Minogue ‘Come Into My World”. After those videos, Michel pushed him to direct his own videos which he did with videos for Noir Desir "A l'Envers a l'Endroit" and Lacquer's "Behind".

Since then Olivier has completed video for The Stills “Lola Stars and Stripes”, The Vines “Ride” and ‘Winning Days” and Hot Hot Heat “Goodnight, Goodnight”. He has also done two commercials for Infiniti, Hyundai and most recently a Sprint commercial.

Olivier is represented by Partizan for commercials and music videos worldwide, excluding North America.
