Biography

Antoine Bardou-Jacquet joined Partizan Midi Minuit in 2000.

With a graphic design background, Antoine’s breakthrough came about as he explored fresh ways of working with type in the music video for Alex Gopher’s The Child. The piece showed a landscape made entirely of type, with a cast also made of type. Shots magazine wrote of the video, “This is one of those rare but happy occasions when a totally original idea is expressed to near perfection, and the audience is left wondering why no one ever thought of it before”. The Child collected awards at festivals all over Europe.

After The Child, Antoine was in constant demand and has worked on projects for Air, Super Furry Animals, Renault, Vittel, Vodafone, Playgroup, Playstation 2 and EDF.

In 2003, he crossed over into live action, directing the internationally acclaimed and multi award-winning Honda ‘Cog’ commercial for London’s Wieden + Kennedy. The two-minute commercial showed Honda car parts knocking into each other in a perfect chain reaction. It took months of meticulous planning and trial and error, with a four-day shoot. It was shot in two takes and was all done for real. It went on to win awards including a Gold Lion at Cannes, Best Commercial and Gold at BTAA and a Gold Pencil at D&AD. It was named the World’s Most Awarded Commercial by the Guinness Book of World Records (beating a record set by Michel Gondry’s Levi’s Drugstore.)

Antoine is now a director known for his great range, and in the last few years has made very well-received animated commercials including Wanadoo ‘The Race’ and Suez ‘When A City Comes to Life’, and the much acclaimed mixed media commercials Peugeot 1007 ‘Easy Life’ and Orange ‘Fish’. Alongside his technical brilliance, he has also shown his skill with live action, performance and comedy, following ‘Cog’ with Honda ‘Choir for the same agency and creative team. Then in 2007 his Sony Cybershot film ‘Pose’ for Fallon collected a BTAA and 2008’s ‘Running Man’ for Visa and Saatchi & Saatchi London was nominated for Best Actor at the 2008 BTAA Craft Awards. Most recently, another Honda spot, 'Problem Playground' has been nominated for the 2009 BTAA Awards, as has Visa 'Running Man'. Finally his film for Shell 'Circuit' almost broke this website when Jeremy Clarkson linked to it from the BBC Top Gear website, calling it 'the best commercial ever made', driving thousands of people to watch it.
