After being named one of Hollywood Reporter’s “Top 15 Canadian Talents to Watch”, Ally burst onto the TV scene this year with Netflix’s hit series, Feel Good, created by comic Mae Martin. Ally directed and EP-ed its first season, which has been critically acclaimed as one of the best series of 2020 and boasts the coveted “100% Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ally also recently directed on Hulu’s Shrill, starring Aidy Bryant, and has co-created and will EP a new comedy series with Dan Levy that is in development. Pankiw and Levy first collaborated on Schitt’s Creek, where Pankiw served as a story edit. She has also directed behind-the-scenes work for Tig Notaro's One Mississippi, a music segment for the finale of NBC’s The Voice and two digital comedy series for the CBC called Terrific Women and An Awkward Girl Dates, which were nominated for three Canadian Screen Awards.
In addition, Ally has built an impressive career in commercials and music video. She has directed for top brands and publications like Amazon, Adidas, Chanel, Pepsi and NYLON. She created a series of “Women in #STEM” shorts for MTV and The Ad Council. Ally got her start as part of a Canadian directing collective with whom she directed and produced music videos for the likes of Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Big Sean, The Arkells and Lil Jon.
