Hiro Murai was born in Tokyo, Japan. He moved to Los Angeles, CA when he was 9 years old. Thirteen years later Hiro graduated from the USC School of Cinema. Hiro has been making art ever since his thumbs were able to grip a pencil, a paintbrush, or a video camera. A true renaissance man, Hiro’s videos reflect a painter’s attention to detail and his paintings are emboldened with the liveliness of cinema. Whether it be illustration, design, photography, or film, Murai’s work is instantly recognizable for its uniquely wry, if not slightly twisted, brand of charm that only Hiro could create. Hiro has directed videos for the Willowz, the Break and Repair Method, and Sunny Day Sets Fire. Hiro’s latest video for Bloc Party’s “Signs (AVH remix)” has become a viral sensation for startlingly inventive, albeit humorously disturbing, imagery. Hiro signed to Partizan in 2008. |
