Steak
Director / Quentin Dupieux
When Blaise (Eric Judor) is released from a psychiatric hospital after seven years for a crime he didn’t commit, he enters a futuristic, sci-fi world, one where young men undergo cosmetic surgery to fit in. Dress codes and speaking styles have completely changed and Blaise has difficulty navigating the new culture. His old friend Georges (Ramzy Bedia) has joined a gang of Botox-injecting, milk-drinking rich bullies and Blaise wants in. Even if it means performing his own face-lift.
Olivier Pére from the Locarno Film Festival:
"When it came out in France in June 2007, Steak was a commercial flop, but what was most marked was the way the majority of audiences and critics misunderstood it, to the extent that the relatively big-budgeted and widely promoted film was referred to as an industrial accident, even a minor artistic scandal. And that’s always a good sign."
